UPDATE, JULY 2: As the SPCA Serving Erie County navigates through its COVID-19 Response phase, many KindnessCampCONNECT changes have been made since this original story was written. Please visit  https:// YourSPCA.org/newsevents/summercamp2020 for more information on the KindnessCampCONNECT options still being offered: six take-home backpack options and two full-week virtual camps: Introduction to Veterinary Science and Advanced Veterinary Science. Thank you!

The SPCA Serving Erie County’s Summer Kindness Camp has gone virtual!

Starting July 6, the SPCA’s Humane Education Department will be offering three different virtual camp-related options in its new KindnessCampCONNECT program: mini-camps, full-week camps, and backpacks for in-home camp experiences.

Camps include live interactions and participation in lessons that get kids out of their seats, moving and shaking; animal-related crafts; virtual meetings with SPCA adoptable animals and staff members’ pets as well as virtual interactions with each other; crafts; educational animal lessons; a take-home kit with materials and supplies for their activities; daily “Zoom” meetings, and more.

SPCA KindnessCampCONNECT Mini-Camps will be held two or three days on selected weeks. Mini-Camp sessions available for children ages six and older include Multi-Media Mutts, All the Wild Things, Fun on the Farm, and Pet Pals.

SPCA KindnessCampCONNECT full-week camps for children ages six and older include Animal Helpers, Critter Care, Behavior & Training, Introduction to Veterinary Science, and Advanced Veterinary Science for children who participated in this year’s Introduction to Veterinary Science or last year’s Vet Camp 101.

Camp prices vary between $40 and $120. Fees cover the program sessions and take-home kits. Sibling discounts are available. Virtual space for mini and full-week camps is limited. Registration details are below.

Not sure if a virtual camp will be right for your child? The SPCA will offer free preview sessions Tuesday, June 30. A camp preview for children ages 6-8 will be held 9 a.m. – 11a.m., and at
1 p.m. – 3 p.m. for children ages 9-12. Registration for preview sessions is required. Registration details are below.

SPCA KindnessCampCONNECT-To-Go Backpacks, available for $30 each, allow children to bring Kindness Camp home! Backpacks provide children with fun, engaging, hands-on activities and games that can be enjoyed at their convenience. They include one week’s worth of materials and instructions for themed activities, art projects, educational handouts, and other fun items. The health and safety of our participants is our primary concern, so all backpack materials have been disinfected and handled by staff members wearing masks and gloves. Backpack themes include Art and Animals (ages 5-12), Back to Nature: Exploring Your Backyard (ages 5-12) and a Service Project  backpack (ages 12-15).
