Educational Farm Hours
Regular hours for visitation and/or adoption are:
Monday: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tuesday through Saturday: 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Sunday: Closed
NOTE: The farm will be closed all day Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, and will resume regular hours Thursday. Thank you!
A Friendly Note For Our Visitors
We love sharing our farm and wonderful animal residents with you. As you visit, please help us keep everyone healthy and safe. Many of our animals are on specialized diets, and unauthorized treats (even seemingly harmless ones like grass and apples!) can cause serious health issues.
Please enjoy their company, but do not feed the animals. Thank you for helping us care for them!

Can't Adopt a Farm Animal But Would Like to Help Us?

Horse stall enrichment treat feeder
We also need the following things regularly:
– Veggies and fruit: carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, watermelon, grapefruit, bell peppers
– Animal crackers (for our goat snacks)
– Low-sugar horse treats (no peppermints, full fat/sugar or apple for our guy, Xylord, please. He has sugar issues)
– Laminating sheets
– 4′ X 6′ rubber stall mats
– Plain, 4-pound salt bricks
– Reams of colored copy paper or cardstock
– Loads of grass hay and/or straw
A Brief History of Our Farm
The Educational Farm at the SPCA Serving Erie County opened to the public in 1977 to provide proper housing for large animals, primarily livestock. Many animals find shelter under our barn’s roof, both temporary and permanent, including horses, goats, chickens, pheasants and even pigs.
Animals are brought to the Educational Farm for different reasons. Some are surrendered by their owners or are strays. Others are brought in as a result of seizure during an animal cruelty investigation and reside in our farm pending court decision or sign-over by the owners. These animals are usually in poor health or improperly socialized. Our extraordinary team of barn staff and volunteers work with these animals daily to improve their quality of life.
What began as a necessity for large animal housing and treatment has been expanded into a tool for humane education. In our ever-growing urban community, a visit to the Educational Farm is, for many people, their initial contact with live farm animals. Children and adults alike find their time here both enjoyable and educational.
