It’s the most difficult decision a pet owner must make.
The decision that it’s time to say goodbye.

We know how difficult that decision is, and we’re here to help.

Our compassionate team at the SPCA can guide you through this process, and help you make decisions on general animal cremation or private cremation (which enables you to keep your pet’s ashes in a locked, cedar box).

For many pet owners, it is important to be with their pets at the time of euthanasia, or see their pets post-euthanasia. While these options are not available at the SPCA, they are available in our adjoining LIPSEY VETERINARY CLINIC.  Contact the Lipsey Clinic at (716) 531-4700 or LipseyClinic@yourspca.org for additional information.

Appointments are required for euthanasia at the SPCA. To make your appointment, please call (716) 875-7360, ext. 0, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Due to the high volume of phone calls and visitors received at the SPCA, you may be asked to leave a message and we may not be able to schedule your euthanasia appointment for the same day. If you find you are in an emergency situation and need to say goodbye to your animal before an SPCA appointment can be made, please contact your veterinarian or local animal emergency clinic.

Because additional, unplanned care will need to be provided for those who come to us without an appointment, euthanasia requests with no appointment will be subject to an emergency care fee.

Prices for euthanasia are listed below; they vary depending on the animal’s weight and specific owner requests.

Please note: The SPCA provides humane euthanasia for animals who have sadly reached the end of their lives, not for behavioral reasons. All animals surrendered for euthanasia are subject to a medical evaluation.  The SPCA reserves the right to refuse euthanasia services if humane alternatives are available. The SPCA will not euthanize healthy senior animals, even by request. Pet owners wishing to have animals euthanized for behavioral reasons or simply due to age must utilize the services of a veterinarian.
