Penny was found on the streets at only four-weeks old with an extremely painful eye condition. Overwhelmed by the cost and level of care she needed, Penny’s finder surrendered her to the SPCA Serving Erie County for treatment.

Upon Penny’s arrival, our Veterinary Team promptly examined her. One of her eyes was painfully bulging out, while the other had a small ulcer. To alleviate her pain and reduce infection, she was given medicated eye drops daily. But the excess tissue on her bulging eye would not be so easily treated.

Thankfully, after a careful surgery to remove the excess tissue, Penny’s eye healed over the course of a few weeks, and she did not need to have it fully removed! To further support her recovery, brave little Penny was placed into a loving foster home so she could be monitored closely in case of an emergency and to help her gain weight before her spay surgery.

Penny is just one of hundreds of pets this year who will require emergency medical treatment in our shelter. Our monthly Yelp for Help donors make it possible. Please consider joining this compassionate community of donors by becoming a Yelp for Helper today!
