Found alone in the frigid winter without access to food, gentle Kalani arrived weighing only 54 pounds — HALF of the weight of a healthy Great Dane. Her bones were painfully protruding and causing pressure sores all over her body. After she arrived at our shelter, she needed immediate care, starting with a gradual diet, medication, and a warm bath. Our veterinarians knew that her first 72 hours of treatment were crucial. Thankfully, Kalani started to gain weight steadily … but it would still take weeks of treatment and observation before she would be ready for her forever home.

Today, Kalani’s suffering is behind her. Healing and happy, she delights in a warm snuggle on the couch with her foster family, who immediately adopted her as soon as her medical treatment was completed! Her new family has been essential in providing her the specialized care and love she deserves, and we couldn’t be more grateful for her progress.

Our generous donors helped save Kalani’s life. Without them, the SPCA Serving Erie County could not have provided the emergency care she desperately needed.
