2019 Summer Camp

The SPCA is the perfect summer destination for campers looking for hands-on animal encounters, exciting interactive activities, and a daily look into the world of animal welfare and care.

Vet Academy 101

Does your elementary school-aged child want to be a veterinarian?  This academic camp provides a wonderful age-appropriate introduction to veterinary medicine.  Elementary school campers will learn about physical exams, heart rates, common diseases, and how to read X-rays.  They will watch a spay/neuter surgery, perform a mock surgery, and take home their very own stethoscope!

Vet Academy 102

Learn even more about the exciting world of veterinary medicine! This academic camp provides a more in-depth look into the world of veterinary medicine and is a perfect step for any middle school student interested in a veterinary career. Campers will observe animal physical exams, practice their suturing skills, watch a surgery, practice CPR on an animal model, learn how to draw blood, measure medication dosages, perform a mock spay surgery, and much more!

Sense-ational Pets

Have you heard that cats have spines like liquid or dogs have super sniffers? We share our world and homes with amazing animals and each have superpowers that help them survive. Find out who can breathe through their skin, who can make their own food, who soars through the skies, who has night vision, and who can communicate with us! During this camp, students will learn about animal superpowers through games, stories, and hands-on activities. Each day will be a new investigation into the incredible world of the five senses and campers will test how their own senses stack up against those of animals.

Arts and Animals

Does your child love art AND animals? This summer we are excited to offer Arts and Animals camp for animal lovers with a creative side. This camp incorporates animal-themed art projects with lessons about pet care, responsibility, and safety. Campers will have the opportunity to express themselves creatively through fun and impactful crafts and activities, along with hands-on animal interactions with dogs, cats, wildlife, and farm and exotic animals. We won’t hold back on the creative side, especially since it will help the animals at the SPCA! Campers will come home with lots of creative animal art. (All materials are included.)

Paws and Claws

Calling all young animal lovers! Campers are invited to come test their knowledge regarding a variety of pets. Each year the SPCA adopts out all kinds of pets and this camp will explore what it takes to care for every pet – furry, feathered, and scaled. Campers will dive into the world of pet ownership by fostering their very own pet plushie for the week. With plenty of crafts, games, and animal interactions, this camp is guaranteed to get camper’s tails wagging!

Just "Fur" Fun

Campers attending Just “Fur” Fun will explore hands-on activity stations that reinforce concepts in pet care, pet grooming, animal jobs, training techniques, animal rescue, and wildlife rehabbing 101. Campers will interact with animals, play cool games, make fun crafts, and create exciting animal enrichment activities.

Humane Heroes

Does your child love animals? Does he/she want to make a positive impact on the lives of animals? This camp explores the many ways that kids can help pets in our community. Campers will explore the world of animal welfare through innovative activities, games, and animal meet-and-greets. Whether it’s making enrichment activities for animals at the SPCA, learning positive training techniques, learning about proper pet care, pet overpopulation, puppy mills and other important issues concerning our domestic and wild animals, campers will leave with an understanding that it is cool to care!

Counselors-in-Training (CIT)

The CIT Program is a great opportunity for teens (age 15-17) looking to gain volunteers experience with children and animals! As counselors in training, participants will assist camp staff leading engaging week-long sessions of summer camp. Counselors in training will help facilitate crafts, games, lessons, and animal meet-and-greets throughout camp sessions.

Cost: $150/week, $100 for July 1-3 week

CAMP INFORMATION

Before or after care is available from 8 am – 9 am and 4 pm – 5 pm for $25 per week. Individual before or after care sessions are $6 each.

Camp sessions are organized by age and grade.  When you register your child, use this guideline to ensure that they are in the correct group:

SPCA staff and camp counselors are certified in First Aid and CPR; however, employees, volunteers or other representatives are not permitted to administer any medications or emergency medical treatments to anyone. Rescue devices can be given to a humane educator to be secured onsite in case of an emergency. Humane educators can assist your child in the preparation of the device but cannot deliver any medications such as inhalers or Epipens.  A doctor’s note must accompany these if you would like to have them onsite if there is an emergency. If a rescue device will remain onsite at the SPCA, contact us to discuss this.

Full-week summer camps: If your child is registered in advance, a place is reserved for him or her. If, prior to June 1, we learn your child will, in fact, not be attending camp after that place has been reserved, a non-refundable processing fee of $50 will be retained. From June 1 through two weeks prior to camp, a deposit equal to 50% of the camp cost will be retained.

No refunds will be given 14 days prior to or after the start of any week-long camps.

If your child is absent or on vacation during the registered week, camp fees will not be returned or prorated.

All refund requests must be submitted in writing.

Approved refunds will take a minimum of two weeks to process.

-Each camper who attends a full week will receive an SPCA camp shirt. Additional shirts are available for $10.
-Campers will interact with an animal daily.
-Contact us if you have any concerns about animal or food allergies.
-Campers can register for multiple sessions.
-Campers must bring a lunch daily with a morning and afternoon snack provided by the SPCA.
-Camp will take place at the SPCA located at 300 Harlem Road, West Seneca.

The SPCA’s humane educators work with children and adults throughout the year.  These educators/camp counselors are trained in First Aid and CPR.
