Not every animal comes to the SPCA Serving Erie County healthy and adoptable. Countless animals like Luigi suffer from life-threatening illnesses and injuries, usually the result of abuse and neglect. They require immediate, and expensive, veterinary care that often stretches our resources. Once treatment is administered, many require additional medical care or intense socialization and behavior modification.
Luigi, a one-year-old Siberian Husky, was found as an injured stray. Our veterinary team noticed severe damage to his right hind leg. Luigi also came to us with broken teeth and mild hemorrhaging in his right eye. We believe he was hit by a car. X-rays revealed a completely broken femur with a butterfly fragment fracture. Luigi was scheduled for a rare and invasive pinning surgery that would allow him to keep his injured leg. A tooth extraction was also performed.
After surgery, Luigi was put on strict kennel rest and a special diet to help with the healing process for a few weeks until his suture removal. He was then placed with a foster family so our Veterinary Team could continue to monitor his progress. A month later, Luigi had fully healed and was ready for adoption. We could not be any happier for this lovable pup because Luigi was adopted the same day he was made available!
The SPCA’s Yelp for Help Fund offsets the cost of caring for, and eventually making possible successful adoptions of, these special animals. Can you give these animals in need the hope and happiness they deserve? Your gift will truly help to save lives!
